Medical Assistant for Rochester Primary Care
Job Title: Medical Assistant
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Under the direct supervision of the provider and nursing leadership.
Work in reception; answer and screen phone calls in a professional, timely manner; schedule appointments, process medical billing, and verify insurance information.
Accept and process payments.
Call prescriptions into the pharmacy, complete referrals and prior authorization requests.
Oversee and ensure efficient turnover of exam rooms, maintain exam rooms in a neat and clean manner at all times, and restock supplies.
Comply with patient needs at all times; assist patients with instructions on medications, special diets, and self-management care guidelines.
Gives injections and applies casts, splints and dressings. Apply knowledge of sterile techniques.
Ensure patient’s charts are documented accurately and consistently, carry out patient history interviews, take/record vital signs, and prepare for patient’s examination and/or procedures.
Alert Physicians of patients' allergies prior to beginning exams, assist physicians with injections, aspirations, castings and/or other procedures, as necessary.
Maintain inventory, ensure accuracy and consistency with temperatures for vaccines.
Operation of X-Ray, CBC, Urinalysis, and EKG equipment for routine diagnostic tests. Notify patients of lab results.
Basic computer knowledge
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
Maintain quality control standards
Lifting up to 50 lbs.
Degree: High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge in OSHA regulations and HIPAA
First Aid/CPR trained
Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program; certification preferred.
At least 1 year of previous clinical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Previous experience using an Electronic Medical Record system is preferred.
Previous experience with PCMH, PQRS, and Wellcentive is preferred.
Knowledge in working in lab setting.
Successful candidate will be subject to mandatory vaccinations/immunizations unless they qualify for an available exemption.
Experience and knowledge of IPAs/managed care, Medicare, and other insurance payers' verification methods and processes.
Strong EMR and EPM system background with Athena Health experience preferred. Knowledge of CPT and ICD coding is preferred.
Practice hours are M, T, F from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Wednesday from 1:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Thursday from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
Saturday 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
